France Rugby first ever Grand Slam in 1968

Victories over Scotland 8 points to 6. Ireland 16 points to 6. And England 14-9 at Stade Colombes. France had already won the championship. But needed to defeat Wales to win the coveted Grand Slam (Grand Chelem).

France’s captain was flanker Christian Carrère. Also, in the back row were Walter Spanghero and Michel Greffe. And Elie Cester along with lain Plantefol at Lock forward. Michel Yachvili (the father of Dimitri) was at hooker. Either side at Prop was Jean-Claude Noble and Michel Lasserre.

France Rugby’s first Grand Slam wearing the away jersey

The team marched on to the Arms Park in Cardiff. Wearing their away jerseys that inspired the Ellis Rugby designs. The three-quarter included Centre’s Jo Maso and Claude Dourthe. André Campaes and Jean-Marie Bonal were on the wings and Claude Lacaze at full-back. The half-back pairing included brothers Guy and Lillian Camberabero. Two clever tacticians.
